From all over the world, Pakistan has major sight attractions for climbers and geologists. There are five out of the world’s 14 highest peaks in this country. In this post, we will discuss some famous mountain ranges in Pakistan.

The northern areas of Pakistan contain the world’s highest ranges of mounts. The collision of Indo-Australian tectonic plates was the reason for the existence of diverse peaks. The Asian continent is one of the blessed ones.

The unique geographical landmarks on earth are three ranges. These are Himalaya, Karakoram (second highest), and Hindu-Kush. At the boarder of Indus and Gilgit Rivers, there is Jaglot. This is 40 Km south of Gilgit. These mounts are present here.

This country is home to more than a hundred peaks. Those are above 7,000 meters high. These are mainly located in the Karakoram highlands.

Himalayas

From all across the globe, it’s the world’s largest mountain range. Mount Everest’s located here. It is present in the Kashmir valley and northern mountains of Pakistan. It is at the north of the Indus River and dominates by Nanga Parbat. Five international borders pass through it. These are Nepal, Bhutan, China, India, and north of Astore District in Gilgit-Baltistan.

It is the most visited spot for tourism in Pakistan. People charm from it for trilling excitement and adventure. Dosai National Park is closer to it. It is also famous for beautiful places in Pakistan. It’s surrounded by rolling hills.

For the overnight campaign, hiking, and fishing, summer is the best season.

Hindu Kush  

It is present in the north-western Mountains in Pakistan. And it rises to the southwest of Pamir’s. In between Afghanistan and Pak, the eastern part straddles. These highlands can see through the northern areas i.e. Ghizar, Yasin Valley, and Ishkoman.

These mounts got discovered in 1830. Since 1927, the climbers are trying to scale it. In 1950, a Norwegian team with state climbers made its first successful attempt.

In Chitral, the maximum peak The Tirich Mir is present. While at the Pak-Afghan border, Noshaq, the second utmost topmasts located. Trekking and Jeep Safari are some entertaining activities in nearby regions.

Karakoram

This is the second uppermost in the world. And from the Himalayas, a part of it extends. It’s a situation between three international borders. These are Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan), India (Ladakh), and China (Xinjiang). In South Asia, it is the continental divide.

These mounts have more than 60 topmasts and those are above 7,000 meters. It is at the edge of the Tibetan Plateau and north of Pamir highlands.

In 1857, an American team tried to climb it. Thomas Montgomerie who was a member of the team named the topmast K2. As it was in the second order. While the other four are;

  • K1 (Masherbrum)
  • K3 (Broad Peak)
  • K4 (Gasherbrum II)
  • K5 (Gasherbrum I)

The world’s second and third long glaciers outside the polar region are Siachen and Biafo Glacier. It is also known as ‘Savage Mountain’ because it is difficult to climb.

Nanga Parbat

It is famous as ‘Killer Mountain’ and ‘Diamir’. It is the world’s 9th utmost mount and one of the famous mountain ranges in Pakistan. A Sanskrit word ‘nanga parvata’ that means ‘naked mountain’ is its name.

It joined the Himalayas, in the northern to the southern of Indus River of Astore District. It drops to 23,000 feet to the Indus River. So in 1895, a British climber named Albert F. Mummery died in his attempt to climb it.

Afterward, 30 other hikers died because of harsh weather and difficult ascends. However, in 1953, an Austrian climber Hermann Buhl became successful in his attempt.

Safed Koh

These are white highlands and situated at the border of Pak and Afghanistan. In this region, the highland Sikaram is the top and most popular one. It’s known as ‘Spin Ghar’ in the Pashto language.

It is near the Khyber Pass and Shandur Top. Therefore, it is the premier polo ground in the world. Shandur Polo Festival is a famous event held every year in the Hindu Kush.

Kirthar

In Sindh and Baluchistan, there lies the Kirthar. It is 30 Km away from the Mula River and Cape Monze to the Arabian Sea. These’re drained to the Gaj River and Hub River.

The ‘Barugh Hill’ makes it the topmost altitude of Sindh. It is 7056 feet above sea level. It lies to Gorak Hill that is also known as the “the Murree of Sindh”.

Salt Range

It is consists of series of hills and low mounts. From the Potohar Plateau to the Jhelum River, it is present in the northern part. There are rich deposits of salt in here.

Khewra, Kalabagh, and Warcha yielding are the great mines of it. Moreover, some quantities of coal, gypsum and other minerals are also here.

It is one of the mountain ranges of Pakistan with rich diversity and wildlife. National Parks and reserved Forests are also located here.

Suleiman

Suleiman is present in the northern mountains of Pakistan. It is at the border of India’s subcontinent Iranian Plateau and Indus River. It is the fourth major series of highlands.

With medium elevations, these are quite different in structure from others.
